If it was registered as brand new it doesn't need one for three years.

It's not just brand new registrations, my age related plate is exempt for 3 years also. I was always of the belief that anything which is newly registered with the DVLA was exempt for the 3 yrs, regardless of it being a brand new reg or an age related plate.

Even the DVLA don't know their own rules!
My age related Zero didn't require an MOT until 3 years. Its from first registration for any vehicle

you know the left hand right hand problem

As Zach says speak to two different people at DVLA and you will get two interpretation of the same book.

I am pretty sure that the DVLA tell you what you require when the car is due for tax.

I’m in the U.S. This week and in Maryland (the state I’m in) cars get an MOT when they are first registered and then NEVER again! We have seen some cars in shocking states and one with the bonnet black nastied on!
