Well the time has finally arrived and I delivered my Zero to GBS on Wednesday for pre-inspection and hopefully IVA (Simon don't be to harsh on my building). Strange think though when I unloaded from the trailer the handbrake was stuck on, it's never happened before so I guess she didn't want to leave.

Anyway I'm sure the guys at GBS will put thinks right and hopefully i'll soon be picking her up for the first drive.

Thanks Richard, as you say there are some great roads in the area so am realy looking forward to finally driving the car that have been freind in the garage for some time now.

Initial report from Simon seems good although dammed handbrake was stuck on when I unloaded the car at GBS, lets hope not a serious issue.

for those interested Colin's car past on Thursday.

Good build and I needed to do very little, someone has been listening Smile

only major points, there were a very few minor

Lambda probes require a shield, as do some lambda mounts, we have both so are a simple fit and remove, but if you are going it alone, please take note.

spent a little time with map and ECU config, so worked with Lambda at test, map switch nearly caused an upset, it stuck out to far according to the test probe, removed center panel removed switch and hid it inside until required, switch to emission map, fell in, switched back, and left it in tunnel. Note the label stuck on over the empty hole, ALL switches and warning lights must be identified, text, approved picture or emblem

found a way around having to remove deffuser for test.

but the tester does like to see that area, so if you leave it on, make sure you can remove the diff access panel.

nice idea with the mirror mounts, although we have our own to fit and remove, may have saved a bit of time, but the mirrors are fitted with adjuster nuts which require shielding, ours are already, so had to make covers. just visible in pics

I have not made to many comments about customer builds in the past, but if people want to know I will try to make some sort of log, with owners permission.

I didn't think Colin would mind on this occasion, because his was one of the best presented cars I have seen.

Almost forgot, handbrake sticking appears to be brake pedal binding on pivot.

I did not think it warrented spending time, and therefore money, to correct, as I felt it wasn't bad enough to effect brake test, although pushing it arround was a pig.

Thankfully proved right. One for Colin to sort before he goes on the road

Simon,

Many thaks for the comments and I have no problem at all with sharing the information, anything that helps other builders is a given and it's usually the small things that cause the problems to us with no experience with the IVA .

One thing Simon didn't comment on which maybe of help to people who have taken 2-3 years building was a problem with the high pressure rubber fuel lines, pump to fuel rail & fuel rail to swirl pot. Although they were new when fitted, 2-3 year on the car sitting in a dampish garage caused some deterioration/aging of the exterior rubber resulting in cracking. They were purchased from a known motor factor and as they were new I never bothered checking them again.

Looking forward to picking up the car up on Friday although the truck I'm driving up is a bit of a guzzler. I'll then sort the brake pedal and fit the screen and wipers ready for recieving the registration.

Fuel hose issue sounds interesting; did you replace all of yours?

I noticed mine had some surface cracking in the engine bay too ... let me know what you think about this - nothing leaks, the pipe is not kinked either its just camera angle - but think I might change it...

from the pictures, they appear to be surface only, no sign of braiding, and I would say serviceable, that does not mean to say they would be accepted by MOT/IVA

the rubber trim stuck onto the rear section, as per third pic on above post. Some of the defusers come out of the molds with the rear top edge radius below the required 2.5mm radius. There is a special test plate to check it.

I advise the defuser is not fitted for test, however as this one was, and very well, in keeping with the rest of the car, I tried a way around having to remove it, which i am pleased to say worked. I had an alternative solution up my sleeve if there was a problem.

it is a half round rubber molding that i have a spool of, originally a Ford part, we sourced some from our trim suppliers, I do not know if it is available I do not think that Kit spares stock it as such, but you could enquire, but they will probably need to speak to me, and I'm off for another week.
