I've been quoted about £200 for reconditioned front calipers and disks for my GBS (from Wayne in sales). Does anyone know if this includes the carriers (or are these already on the refurbed uprights)?

(I would just phone up and ask but i always feel like a moron when talking to experts - i always get asked some extra question which means nothing to me :) )

Thanks Simon. I did call up yesterday and spoke to someone in parts. They said they were included somewhere but they didn't sound very sure, so would be good if you could confirm.

Sorry I was already at work when you replied so did not have that info, open day.

spoke to Wayne as promised and he did not know, so next target was parts staff. Unfortunately only one in today and he became very busy with customers, as did I, and we were unable to get to an answer.

I will take it up with the directors on Monday, and get a firm answer for you.

I would say they are included, as they always come in the box when I have asked parts for a caliper, but that could be that they are included automatically for in house builds, but priced separately.

didn't go with directors, just asked parts for front callipers. Can confirm that the mounting bracket, the bit that joins calliper to Ford hub assembly ARE attached to the calliper out of the box.

The rear is slightly different, the "calliper bracket" IS part of the calliper assembly, like the front, HOWEVER there is a "brake calliper mounting bracket" to mount the unit to the rear suspension upright.

This bracket is an option, and not part of the basic kit, for the reason that the donor vehicle could be disc OR drum on the rear.

So rather than automatically supply the calliper bracket, or the spacers to mount the drum set-up they are an addition to suit the donor.

I would therefore price these into the disc brake calculations.

As I have seen your posts on the "other" site on a similar subject, I would say that you will need the "brake calliper mounting bracket" whichever disc-brake set up you decide upon, just be careful you do not over brake the car, it will be around 600Kg when finished, and has no facility for ABS, the biggest danger is locking the brakes and loosing control, not being unable to stop a car of that weight with the callipers it was designed for.

After market, sports type, callipers tend not to come with the caliper bracket front OR rear as they are generic callipers, and the mounts differ dependant on the vehicle they are being fitted to.

Ok, thanks Simon....

The car may only weigh 600kg but i weigh 120kg myself - it's gonna need all the brakes it can get :-)

Only kidding, I'm sticking with the front sierra ones from you...
