guys.

my speedo has gone from a intermittent fault of working to just registering zero.

on turning the car on the speedo goes full scale and back to zero as normal
the trip computer shows the correctish millage driven,

the speedo pick up sensor on the diff bolts flashes yellow as the bolt passes the sensor.

ive checked power to the sensor of 12v.
ive belled the 3 wires back to the plug on the speedo. all show continuity.
the gauge lights up when lights are turned on.

i have now replaced the sensor. again it flashes yellow as it passes by the bolt heads.
ive swapped out the complete gauge from a friends GBS and still it does not work.

SO.
the sensor lights up
the cables seem to be ok and direct back to the gauge.

ANY IDEAS.

Thanks
justin

what do you mean by intermittent fault?

that is just an internal calibration for the stepper motor, it has no bearing on the speed sender or wiring

so the sensor must have + & - circuit, and is seeing the bolts, but is it sending a signal? with a volt meter, meter red wire to pink at connection of sender wire to main loom, meter black to a good earth, you should see a voltage, approx 5volt when the sender light is on, 0volt when it is not, if it is the other way around it is me, but you know the sender is producing a signal, and it is getting to the main loom.

checking continuity? the + and negative wires do not go back to the seedo, although as they are connected to the + and - circuits they will appear as though they are directly connected, however this can not be your problem as the light on the sensor works.

The signal wire from sensor to loom connection, is the important one. If you have continuity from the sensor loom to the black white on the speedo plug we can discount wiring.

new sender and an another gauge, the only thing left is the wiring, assuming nothing had been changed before the fault, I would double check the signal wire.

sensor wire to main loom plug through to pin 13 of the dash plug, from there to black white wire on speedo plug
